Impressions on Downtown Durango Living, part 3

In this final peek at our experience of downtown Durango living, I
want to share with you some of the pleasant SURPRISES we encountered.

CLOSE PROXIMITY TO GOOD COFFEE

If you enjoy great coffee, tea, lattes, or chai, it is absolutely
amazing how these simple pleasures enhance your enjoyment.

Downtown certainly has an abundance of great coffee shops, including
Steaming Bean, Durango Coffee, Durango Joe’s, Pure Soul, etc.

At 1111 Camino, we feel the convenience factor is essential , and so
we plan to have a cafe that serves great coffee as well as wonderful
breakfasts and lunch.

ON-SITE BIKE STORAGE

Durango has been tagged as a “bike-friendly” city, and we certainly do
have an abundance of 2 wheel opportunities.

Downtown Durango living is all about the lifestyle, and so 1111 Camino
has plans to construct a secure bike storage room at the garage level.
This will provide easy access directly onto the Animas River Trail in
front of the condominiums.

RICHNESS OF RELATIONSHIPS WITH NEIGHBORS

Deb and I found that an entirely unique culture exists downtown.
People relate to their neighbors in ways that we never experienced in
other living environments.

It’s like the myriad of conveniences is a “shared secret” amongst
ourselves and our neighbors. Whether we’d meet our friends for dinner
at a favorite restaurant, or we’d run into someone as we strolled the
“Strip” (Main Street between College and 12th St.), or simply have
someone over, in the moment, for a glass of wine...it was all magical.

At 1111 Camino, we want to take this spontaneity one step further. We
are planning a fabulous rooftop patio (check out photo #9) for
residents and guests, directly on the river. It is designed to have
approx. 900 s.f. with Bar-B-Que grills, refrigerator, counters, shade,
bathroom, etc. We envision residents enjoying sunset views, cocktails,
and the activity on the trail and the river (walkers, bikers, fishing,
rafting)

SHOPPING SURPRISES

Before moving downtown, we traveled all over town to find what we
needed. But our habits changed as we discovered that most of what we
needed was within a short walk. Everything from grocery and natural
foods stores to the hardware store, post office, and shopping for
clothes, electronics, books, home furnishings, etc. was at our
doorstep.

1111 Camino is designed to enhance existing downtown shopping
opportunities with the further convenience of an on-site cafe
(mentioned earlier) and specialty retail store, offering wine and
gourmet foods.

EASE OF PARKING

Taking the hassle out of accessing the downtown experience is a must.
A permanent parking spot a block or more away from your building is
nice, but not optimal. That’s why we’ve designed a secure, heated
underground parking garage immediately beneath the building.

As mentioned in the 1st part of this series, one of my primary
intentions in living downtown was to gain first-hand experience to
incorporate into the design of our building.
